The brand’s mission is to empower cat lovers like you to create the healthiest and happiest lives for your cats. We help your cats thrive through better nutrition and mental enrichment.

As a brand, we believe cats are much more than the aloof and weird creatures mass media portrays them out to be. They are unique and awesome with their own language, and they deserve to be treated as part of the family like dogs are. If you believe the same, welcome to the tribe!! 

We plan to help you create a healthier and happier life for your cats through the following offers –

– Automatic WET cat food feeder – many of us don’t have the flexibility to feed multiple wet food meals throughout the day. We are prototyping an automatic feeder that dispenses wet food at set times while refrigerating it to prevent spoilage. You can great knowing that your cat is getting the best nutrition even when you are away! It will be a novel and patentable product, so stay tuned for any updates in the development.

– Automatic cat toys and environmental enrichment – many of us don’t have the luxury to play with our cats whenever they want to. When they are bored, they can get into trouble in our houses. So having cat toys that turn on by themselves and stimulations in their environment go a long way in preventing boredom, obesity, and “destruction”!  

– Actionable nutrition guides – learning about cat nutrition can be overwhelming. There’s so much information out there ranging from ingredient analyses to dissecting the marketing claims of cat food companies. We will guide you step-by-step through identifying nutritional gaps in your cat’s current diet, finding better solutions, and transitioning / experimenting with healthier diets.

Veterinarian Author and Researcher

We are always looking to expand our authority and knowledge base. So far, Iuliana Mihai DVM, has played an integral role in crafting our content and guides.

Iuliana Mihai is a veterinarian with 12+ years of experience in pet pathology, laboratory, and cancer. She finished college at the University of Agronomical Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Bucharest, Romania (EAEVE member) and has a master’s degree in equine and pet pathology. 

She also studied epithelial cancers for her Ph.D. She has worked in a couple of veterinary clinics over the years as an internal medicine specialist. She also likes to write and teach people about pet nutrition, behavior, and diseases.

Founder’s Story

My name is Emma, the founder of Cats Are Family. The brand’s mission is to help your cats thrive through better nutrition and mental enrichment. 

I hope to improve the well-being of millions of cats out there by launching unique products and educating fellow cat lovers about cat nutrition and behavior. Don’t we all want to raise healthy and happy kitties who love us back?

The inspiration came from the various problems I encountered as a cat parent. Health-wise, I still so clearly remember the shock and worry I experienced when Teddy became overweight and had frequent bad diarrhea. 

This led to a deep dive into the nutritional merits of various cat foods on the market. As a turns out, some of our kitties’ favorite treats (not going to name brands here) are made of complete junk, and many “nutritionally complete” cat food contain harmful ingredients and aren’t species-appropriate.

To help fellow cat lovers to avoid the issues I’ve had to deal with, I’m determined to create healthier alternatives and to spread awareness of optimal feline nutrition.

As I was switching both of my babies to 100% premium wet food, cutting out kibbles completely, I realized many cat parents, including myself, don’t have the flexibility in our schedule to feed wet food multiple times a day. And we can’t simply leave the wet / raw food in the bowl as they spoil so easily!

This led to the idea of an automatic wet food feeder with built-in refrigeration. It will keep the food fresh all day long while dispensing whatever amounts you need throughout the day. This way, we can all have the peace of mind that our cats are getting the best food and nutrition even when we have to be away. 

There is currently no product like this on the market, so we are working with an engineering team to prototype it and patenting the design. We will give you updates and ask for your feedback as soon as the second iteration of prototyping is completed! 

Beyond issues relating to nutrition, I also noticed indoor cats can get bored pretty easily. They often get into things they are not supposed to, and, occasionally, create havoc in our house. And both of my cats can become less affectionate if I don’t play with them often. 

So if you also deal with those issues, you are not alone! Mental enrichment for indoor cats are rather limited. We are working with manufacturers to create cat toys that closely imitate wild prey and automatic cat toy that keep your cats entertained while you are away. Products for “catifying” your space, as Jackson Galaxy calls it, are also part of our plan.
